Review of Sunday Roast at The Dorset, Brighton

Review of the Sunday Roast at The Dorset, North Road, Brighton, Brighton & Hove

Sunday 29th September 2013

The Dorset, 28 North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YB

Roast Beef £9.95

We very nearly didn’t go for a roast this Sunday for a couple of reasons.  Firstly partner had been out of town and wasn’t getting back into Brighton until later in the afternoon and you know that you always get the best meat early on! Secondly, I was having a very undecided, lets call it “womans prerogative” moment and wasn’t sure I fancied a roast, especially one later in the day!

Anyway after much to-ing and fro-ing, we decided on the Dorset and then if I didn’t fancy a roast there was always the delicious mussels I could have instead. We have been to the Dorset before so apologies for it not being a fresh review but we were in town and it was close by and the food has always been great so it seemed like a good option.

Even though it was nearly 4pm the bar, restaurant and outside area were still very busy but we managed to grab a table in the bar. We were told it was waiter service and to sit down and they would bring us some drinks, fabulous!  On the Sunday menu they offer Roast Chicken, Roast Lamb, Roast Pork Belly, Roast Beef and Vegetarian Wellington as well as the Dorset specialty Moules. The friendly waiter advised us that there were only three Roast beef left. My partner piped up straight away saying he would nab one and of course not wanting to have food envy I went for one as well ; )

I was concerned after I had ordered (still having a moment) that the Roast beef wouldn’t be very nice as it was the last few left but when it arrived we were very pleasantly surprised.

We had some lovely medium rare beef, not a hint of fat or stringiness that you sometimes get when it’s the end cut. There was some sweet potato mash which was seasoned well, peas, boiled carrots and cabbage which were all cooked very well and quite a lot of it. There were three very small roast potatoes which were a bit dry unfortunately but were seasoned well  and tasted pretty good nonetheless. A homemade Yorkshire with herbs cooked into it, I think thyme and lots of gravy, no need to ask for any more!

The Dorset is always good for food  whether it be for a roast or a lazy lunch, the staff are great and the service good, a great place for a late roast!

 Roasty rating 7.5/10
